Chinese Mobile phones to be banned in India
Author: Gadget Techie, Category: India, Latest News, Mobile Phones
All those who own Chinese mobile phones in India , beware !
Most Chinese mobile phone makers use fake IMEI numbers or use the same number for a large number of mobile phones. In the event of a terrorist act or any other criminal activity the Govt. is unable to trace the accused people.
Hence it has been recommended to the Govt. that Chinese mobile phones be banned in India. Not just sale of these, but usage of these on all Indian networks also be banned. Most network operators will be banning Chinese mobile phones as soon as they get directives from the government which shouldnt be very late seeing the current security situation in the capital.

25|Dec|2008Is there any thing that I can pay some amount and get this IMEI number ?
Gadget Techie
25|Dec|2008The thing is that if your IMEI is a duplicate , then also they will be banned. They are a threat to national security and hence will be banned.
If there are more than 1 phones for an IMEI then that means that phones cant be tracked. Your best bet is to hope that your IMEI is unique. Or else always buy phones from reputed companies who are members of GSM association.

26|Dec|2008Chinese Mobiles are having very good features and facility at a very chep price, merely due to Foreign exchange rate !This is adversly affecting sale of other countrys’ brand! So the Mbile Companies who have been looting India so far approached corrupt Indian Officials and Leaders to ban Chinese Mobiles with any pretex, it is perhaps not the matter of Country’s security.[example-a chinese mobile dual sims+blue tooth+audio+video+camera etc facilty is worth Rs.3000/-while so called reputed Cos.costs Rs.15000/-]Earlier Terriorist used Reputed Mobiles, were these mobiles banned? In Mumbai attack, Terriorists received calls from Pakistan even Commando Operations were going on, were mobile service providers banned who received these calls and provided to users?Such is the corruption in India , even in the matter of safety & security! Our corrupt officials and leaders do every act to gain bribe!

28|Dec|2008Yes, no doubt Chinese mobile phones have great features.
They are cheap because they lack a lot of safety and security features. Most have poorly sealed batteries with leaking lead fumes, batteries which have no short circuit prevention.
Reputed mobiles offer unique IMEI codes which can be tracked unlike Chinese phones, so even if a terrorist uses these, they can be tracked. When IMEI are fake or multiple phones for IMEI exist then they are not traceable. Chinese Phones should be banned therefore. I am a consumer myself, but quality as well as security of the nation are more important to me than saving 2000 rupees on a cell phone purchase.

03|Feb|2009Chinese mobile phones are flooding the indian mobile market and are giving tough competition to reputed brands.
But they have also been hitting the headlines due to poor quality or due absence of IMEI number.
Are you a china mobile customer?? Are you using Chinese mobile? Are you safe using a such a phone ,
from health & legal point of view!! Lots & lots of queries and no answers, either with the mobile retailers, nor the industry tech pundits or mobile specialists.
I will give you a basic overview, as I am a legal manufacturer in China and have retail operations in India.
First of all, one needs to understand the origins of these China mobiles, there are 3 types of china mobile manufacturers.
1. Home based assemblers – Small time technicians buy mobile spare parts from “recycle centers” and configure chipset with open source
firmware via laptop, using “hand-made”” mobile body” or shells. These shells (mobile body) are made by pouring either molten plastic in “dies” or shapes designed. Here there is no IMEI ( only fake stickers)
2. Small factories assemblers: These factories buy refurbished “china mobiles” and they source chipset & firmware from Taiwan in bulk and sell only in Chinese market locally ( they don’t export to India), again these factories use fake IMEI.
3. Big Branded Factories: These are the top players in China having workforce over 5000+and have manufacturing contracts with Nokia, Samsung,LG,Iphone. For example Foxconn is world`s largest mobile phone manufacturer.
The Chinese mobile industry consumption in India is approx~30,000 crores alone, and growing rapidly.
The IMEI issue is very plain open & shut case; Chinese manufacturers of all formats have to pay a license fee for getting a sequence of IMEI numbers. They don’t spend money to get the license and here in India we get duplicate IMEI numbers or forged IMEI.
Duplicate IMEI numbers happen in branded products for example, a Nokia selling in Indian grey market is hi-end “counterfeit” copy (NOT copy phone). These phones are actually from the contracted manufacturers of branded phones, who release the phones in market through smuggling network globally.
That is why, the grey market will offer you lower rates than branded stores, as it is counterfeit copy with duplicate IMEI. Margins in such phones are upto 3000 INR per handset, compared to 200/- INR to authorized retailers.
As a customer, Indians need to understand that
1. China is NOT to be blamed for the quality , or SAR issue or IMEI numbers, any person who wishes to import from China , will be presented a quality range, example you can buy a phone as low as from Rs: 500 to Rs: 15,00,000 (Vertu). It is upto to the importer.
2. Indian Importers bring mobile phones which are actually made by small time technicians, our Indian importers are not concerned with the quality, type or feature such as TV,MP3,Bluetooth or 2 sim,3 sim. They are only concerned with “price”. They will haggle a price with these small time players and import to India under fake IEC( Import export) code.
“this is the major problem, which the government of India needs to tackle, so Indian importers who import low quality & fake IMEI, need to banned in India and also the customers should understand that all mobiles on the planet earth , let it be any brand are exclusively , manufactured in China”
So as a customer what you need to do:
1. Demand a bill of sale from your china mobile vendor with IMEI mentioned
2. Register your IMEI from IMEIDATA.com website
3. Buy higher quality china mobiles from branded players.

07|Aug|2009Hi,
I am planning to buy a China made phone from HomeShop18. This phone is manufactured by LongTel. They are providing an IMEI certificate too along with it. Now I wanted to ask is, if I have an IMEI certificate, can I say that my IMEI is unique? Should I go for it?
Kindly reply me as soon as possible.
Thanks & Regards

15|Aug|2009It seems that over 5 crore china phones have sold out in the world market and the target is Asia.
I bought Lephone brand with good features. My phone with GSM and CDMA has IMEI code and ESN code. If the phones are banned then why the Customs Dept has freely allowed it to be sold in the market openly? If so, all phones in India have to be confiscated. Is this possible?
In the phone pad, type *#06# and press ok. The 15-digit code is displayed for each SIM/UTM. Note it down in you book for future reference.
We, middle class people cannot be punished for buying this. If Sudeshi products are to be encouraged then videshi products have to be confiscated and destroyed.
Inspite of rice production in every state, polished PDS ration rice is being smuggled to other states. This itself we are unable to stop. Then how with china phones??

30|Aug|2009Shut up just now ibought a korean mobile if they ban it now they have to give me new branded mobile, see this is not correct think of people , for instance if you go and buy a branded touch phone it will cost you minium 10000 rs but in the case of chinese mobiles you get it for 3000 rs ,this is a planned game by branded mobile manufacturers
