When will the biggies like Airtel and Vodafone respond to Reliance
Author: Gadget Techie, Category: Airtel, India, Mobile Phones, Reliance, Vodafone
The fare wars have begun, this time it isnt on the skies though, but its for the humble mobile phone which have become a gadget used by almost every Indian. This this undoubtedly the dawn of a new era. Most GSM companies have slashed their rates by a good margin. Reliance went a step further reducing rates for all GSM and CDMA customers to 50p/min for all local calls. Whats more is that they are openly challenging Bharti and Vodafone to follow suit by making a mockery of their conditions apply things and special vouchers needed to get equivalent rates.
See the latest ad by Reliance mobile which makes a mockery of Airtel, Vodafone and others who don’t actually reduce their rates without conditions , enjoy Hrithik’s performance as a Pied Piper :
Here is to hoping all the big players realise that their drop in revenue will be nothing compared to the people who switch to other companies after they dont reduce their rates.
Keep a tab on your Internet usage using Netmeter
Author: Gadget Techie, Category: India, Online Services
With both Tata Indicom broadband and Airtel Broadband coming out with Fair Usage Policies for their unlimited internet connections, unlimited Internet isnt quite unlimited anymore. Infact there is no way to see your Internet bandwidth usage on Tata Indicom VSNL broadband unless you have a limited hours based/ data usage based account. Probably the same case with Airtel.
What is amazing is that when I wrote to Tata Indicom broadband about asking where I should be able to see the data transfer, I got a weird copy pasted reply.
Anyway, so I was off to search for a solution to my problem , and I came across NetMeter. Its a small and powerful utility that lets you measure the data transfer across your computer (both upload and download). With this nifty tool you can get an idea as to what is your normal Internet data transfer usage etc.

Indian Adsense publishers will no longer be able to get their cheques delivered by secured delivery or normal postal delivery. In an anticipated move, Google India has announced that all adsense India cheques shall be sent by a local courier i.e. Bluedart. Bluedart already handle the local Indian operations of DHL which is partly owned by German Post.
In a statement on their website in the help forum section, google said that Indian publishers will all get their payments by bluedart as long as their areas are serviced by bluedart. Otherwise they will get their cheques via registered Indian post. Probably this is due to the large number of stolen cheques by the Indian Postal department and the cost undertaken by Google to reissue them that they have decided to switch over to local courier.
Indian adsense publishers have also been demanding access to NEFT payments or Western Union to simplify the whole scheme of things. But apparently Google has run into regulation hurdles on that and isnt considering that as an option for Indian publishers yet.
So anyway, no more yellow DHL vans to deliver your adsense India cheques. Just hope they introduce wire transfers/online electronic funds transfers (EFTs/NEFTs) next.

3G Service Jadoo launched in India by MTNL Delhi
Author: Gadget Techie, Category: India, Latest News, Mobile Phones
3G services were finally launched in India (New Delhi to begin with !) by state owned operator MTNL or Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. MTNL is the first operator to be given a license to operate 3G services in India. Other operators will have to bid for the spectrum in special auctions. With the new rules saying 2G rights will also be given to 3G operators things are getting heated up in the 3G spectrum domain. Currently MTNL has launched its 3G services only for corporate clients on a test basis.
3G or 3rd Generation services offer an enhanced rate of data transfer which enables special services like high speed broadband, video calling and digital-interactive content over the air. My dad’s new phone the Nokia E71 has a video calling feature and other 3G services built in , so when its launched for general public , i will try them out.
It remains to be seen what will be the quality of the 3G services offered by MTNL. MTNL is one of the worst mobile phone operators in Delhi , some of the inside jokes on MTNL’s service go like MTNL helps prevent cancer by not connecting your calls and that MTNL has an inbuilt minute minder, as most calls get disconnected within 1 minute of you starting to talk.
BSNL has also been given 3G spectrum to launch their own 3G services. The dawn of 3G services in India will bring good times for sure to the consumer. And with private companies in the fray and competition, the consumer will be king and will be the one who gains most.

Author: Gadget Techie, Category: Gadget Reviews, Latest News, Mobile Phones
It seems like a normal phone until you read the “Special Feature”.
Special Features:
Video Projector: can project cell phone screen as well as external video source (composite input adapter included)
Yes, the thing is an actual projector in a phone, how cool is that ? , Its no ordinary Iphone clone. It costs $345 which really isnt much for some of the rich folks out there, but the projector feature is definitely worth killing for.
The photos of use seem to suggest good clear pictures, the only caveat being the 975 grams weight.
It even got engadget coverage.
You can buy it from dealextreme.

Chinese Mobile phones to be banned in India
Author: Gadget Techie, Category: India, Latest News, Mobile Phones
All those who own Chinese mobile phones in India , beware !
Most Chinese mobile phone makers use fake IMEI numbers or use the same number for a large number of mobile phones. In the event of a terrorist act or any other criminal activity the Govt. is unable to trace the accused people.
Hence it has been recommended to the Govt. that Chinese mobile phones be banned in India. Not just sale of these, but usage of these on all Indian networks also be banned. Most network operators will be banning Chinese mobile phones as soon as they get directives from the government which shouldnt be very late seeing the current security situation in the capital.

All those game crazy Nintendo freaks who were still trying to get their Wiis from relatives abroad or from shady Palika Bazaar shops can now rejoice. Nintendo will be releasing their highly successful Wii console in India on September 30 2008.
The console wasn’t expected to be such a success but it beat the hell out of PS3 and even Xbox 360 , everyone loves a Wii. Wii also has certain fitness games and features a great wireless multiplayer controller. The controllers have motion sensors and are really one of a kind as far as game controllers go. Some Trivia : The Nintendo Wii was supposed to be named the Nintendo Revolutions.
The Wii console will be launched by Samurai games in India who had originally introduces us to the Nintendo games (8 bit) in 1987. The MRP for the Wii is Rs 19,990 and the DS Lite is priced at Rs 7,990 inclusive of all taxes which is a little on the higher side. The Wii console in India will come bundled with the popular Wii sports.
The price is a little high when compared to USA, the Wii there costs around 12000 Indian Rupees and the Nintendo DS sells for 6000 Indian Rupees. The higher cost could be due to taxes, margin predictions or a simple desire to earn more profit.
